Since the widely disputed June 2009 "election," Iranians have risked their lives to protest peacefully. However, the government responded with a violent crackdown, mass arrests, and closure of all forms of independent media. Hundreds of dissidents, bloggers, students, and journalists have been arrested, tortured, or killed.

In the past few weeks, Iranian dissidents have demonstrated that the most important issue in Iran is human rights.
